not so little cannen ace

Well, of course, I haven't updated this ole blog in ages. My life is quite busy. Cannen is just a few weeks shy of 11 months and is a complete and total mess! He's so much fun.

Here's what's been going on.

He STILL won't say "Mama". Only a few times has he said it and I think it's just because he messed up saying something else! He says "Dada" all the time, though. I do have to admit that it's pretty darn sweet. He also repeats sounds and noises he hears ALL the time. It's quite funny!

Crawling...oh, crawling. He started out with this crazy little army crawl where he would pull with his right hand and tuck his left arm under. Then he'd push off with only his right foot/leg and the left dragged behind him. It was hilarious! Then, when we went to Balko for my 10 year reunion (Sept. 9) he started pulling up on everything and nearly crawling correctly. Now after a few weeks, he's crawling quickly and is all over the place. He's pulling up and "cruising" around. It's exhausting and a mess and I wouldn't change it for the world.

i love the 4th

Independence Day is my favorite holiday. I love patriotic songs, the ceremonies and fireworks. The food. The heat. The American flag flying!

We went to my parents house for the day and had a great time. Cannen was quite fussy so we headed home before dark and, much to my horror, I realized that we were NOT going to see any fireworks. The child in me cried. The adult that I am nearly cried. (I said nearly!)

As we made the trek home from north OKC, Kyle was so kind to point out that we would probably see fireworks on our drive home.

::rolls eyes::

But! Much to my surprise, he was right! In fact, we saw a lot of great fireworks. As we turned east on Tecumseh and neared our Norman home, I noticed an excellent display several miles north of us. So my sweet and uncharacteristically patient husband pulled on a side street, turned off the car lights and told me to enjoy.

And enjoy I did!

For about 15 seconds.

Then Cannen interrupted the fireworks show with some fireworks of his own...so Kyle flipped on the lights and we headed to the house.

::cry::

Oh well...I know Independence Day isn't really about fireworks, although it doesn't fully feel like the 4th of July without them. I can't help it - I just love those colorful explosions in the sky.

But, more importantly: I love America. I'm so thankful to the men & women that are fighting, have fought and have died for my freedom. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Cade, Cannen & Taylor (and the rest of us) had a great 4th! How did you celebrate?

Get the Bloopy. I mean the Blumpo. I mean the Bappy.

Kyle and I are totally new to this whole parenting thing. We've learned a lot of new words throughout the pregnancy and the last 4 1/2 months*.

Words like fundus. And anterior position. And colostrum. And mucus plug. (Ack! Sorry, I'll stop.)

But one thing that neither one of us can master is what to call that little rubbery seat that Cannen loves.

Perhaps you know what I'm talking about? It's a Bumbo and even Microsoft Word recognizes it as an actually word.

You think we'd know what to call it since, oh, I don't know, it's WRITTEN ON THE APPARATUS. But neither one of call it by the correct name. Ever.

We're special.

Kyle and I have called it pretty much every weird "b" word we can. Bloopy. Bilpy. Bloppy. Babbo.

I think Cannen is looking at us saying, "It's Bumbo, you idiots".

Poor kid has weird parents.

*For some reason I wrote this two months ago but didn't post. And in fact, Cannen doesn't really need it anymore. But I still wanted to tell you that we're brand new and we get a good laugh at ourselves now and then.

I and Love and You

I am in love with this song right now!

I don't know why the player is so big...can't get it to shrink. I'm brand new. But whatever. Enjoy.

I hate that cancer stuff ...

My Dad has cancer and it 100% totally sucks.

And he’s not the only one in my family that’s had cancer.

My Papa had cancer.

My Grandpa had cancer.

My Auntie Sandy had cancer.

And now my dad has cancer.

I hate cancer.

So, I decided to participate in Relay for Life this year. The walk is on May 20 at the Norman High School track.

I’m walking in honor of my family members. I'm walking with the hope to have cancer eradicated before it affects another member of my family.

I’m walking for those that can’t.

what has happened here?

We all know "having a baby changes everything" and I can tell you it is completly true. I've always been a bit of a neat-freak and constantly cleaned my house.

Now, not so much.

See?

But just for the record this was as bad as it ever got. Actually, I cleaned my house right after I took this picture. But still!
