If you know my brother Nick well then you know he hates Snuggies. You know, those slightly silly, we're-all-gonna-wear-them-to-the-ballgame blankets with sleeves? Yeah. Those. That's what he hates. With a passion.
His level of hate is kinda remarkable, really. Kyle even wanted to buy him a Snuggie for Christmas just to make him mad. I didn't allow that to happen. I didn't want to put him over the edge.
Anyway, I was kinda in Nick's camp on the whole Snuggie issue. I didn't really get it. It's basically a robe worn backwards, right? So, why don't people just save some money and put their robe on backwards?
But today...I finally got it. I had Cannen all wrapped up in a wonderfully fuzzy blanket but he was not happy. Not one bit. And then it occurred to me...
HE COULDN'T MOVE HIS ARMS! THEY WERE TRAPPED INSIDE! He desperately needs a Snuggie.
See?
And, just for the record, Nick did not get his hatred of Snuggies from our parents. Here they are at the last 2010 tailgate proudly wearing their matching Snuggies.
Aren't they cute?

My Kid is a Genius
That's right. I'm putting it out there. Just like that.
See, this last Saturday we were in Weatherford for the SWOSU Bulldog game to cheer on Bud. Afterwards we went to a local restaurant and Pops (my dad), Gramps (Kyle's Dad), Kyle, Cannen and I were all at table together.
I had Cannen sitting on the table facing his two grandpas. My Dad started waving his fingers trying to get Cannen's attention. It worked. And then, right there in the middle of a mediocre Mexican restaurant, the most miraculous, astonishing and down-right fascinating thing happened: Cannen waved back.
People! The kid was only 10 weeks 5 days old at the time. This must be some kind of record or something. I know, I know, you want proof. But I don't have it.
You'll just have to take my word for it.

My How Time Flies!
Well, Cannen is 7 1/2 weeks old. I cannot believe it! Time really does fly by. It's amazing how much he's changed. He's cooing so much - the other day he said, "Ah-goo" and it just melted my heart! He also holds his head up high, kicks 'Tummy Time' in the butt and holds onto things with his tiny but strong hands. He's just a cool little dude.

What's In a Name
If you know me at all, you know that I'm totally indecisive. I just don't want to make a final decision and then POOF! something better comes along.
When I found out I was pregnant I was so excited but instantly worried about what we would name it if it was a boy. Well, wouldn't you know it, a tiny little penis appeared on the ultrasound and from that day in June to the middle of November, everyone's question for us was, "What's his name going to be?". Since we had no idea, the baby was affectionately dubbed 'Baby J'.
During this time, Kyle and I talked about names non-stop. We both agreed the name should be something unique but not weird since our last name is Johnson, which is quite common. We both made lists of names we liked. I liked the name Owen. Kyle hated it. He liked Keegan. I really couldn't stand it. And on and on it went and one by one they were removed until the lists were totally empty.
We finally took a much needed break from the name conversation, hoping something would just come to us. That didn't help, either!
Our family and friends really weren't much help, either, although they thought they were! Let me just prove it to you with a list of some of the suggestions...
Aristole (from Brett)
Lincoln (also from Brett. After this he was banned from participating!)
Jericho (from Nick)
Houdini (from my boss)
Paco (from Diana)
Lil' Keith (from, who else...Keith!)
and the list goes on and on. It became quite an ordeal!
Finally, the time came for us to get serious about a name...and for me to make a decision. I decided I liked the idea of giving him a 'K' name, so Kyle started reading names from the baby book. Randomly he said, "Kannon" and my heart melted. That was it! I was so excited. I asked him to read the meaning, but had already decided it didn't matter what it was. Much to my horror the meaning was 'a Buddhist diety'. Okay. That wasn't going to cut it. What if, one day, he wants to be president of the United States and someone finds that out and they make a big deal of it?! I just couldn't see it. So I decided we needed to move on. More back and forth and indecisiveness occurred until the night before he was born. Kyle and I discussed it some more and I told Kyle why 'Kannon' wouldn't work for me. He said, "Wendy, the name is in the book under the 'C's, too." Well, wouldn't know you - it was and the meaning was 'an official of the church'. That decided it for me!
So, Cannen it was. We had both liked the name Ace all along, although I just couldn't have Ace as his first name but it definitely fits as the middle name. We both have it in our heads that Ace will be a good nickname for him as he grows up.
So, now you know. He's the only Cannen Ace I know and I just love this name! It fits him already.
I'm quite thankful Cannen has a 'good' meaning. Otherwise the poor kid might have 'Baby J' on his birth certificate.

I've Heard This Somewhere Before...
So...I've said before that I'm going to be a more consistent blogger. Well this time it's true.
Since the birth of my baby boy (Cannen Ace), I've decided that I want to blog more - to keep people in the loop about our lives now that there's someone very interesting in it.
I am, in no way, striving to be a 'mommy blogger'. Heck no! I just thought it would be cool to post things about our lives now instead of clogging up my Facebook account with photos and funny/interesting incidents. Plus, this could be a cool thing for my kid(s) to look back on someday.
Those of you with a weak stomach or strong gag reflex will like this: I promise that I will NOT talk about the color, consistency or frequency of Cannen's poop, booger size or any other related thing. You're safe there. That's not stuff that I want to know about - let alone share with the world.
So, that's the plan. I'll post something more soon. Probably.
In the meantime - check out my adorable son!
